EMMANUEL
EPISCOPAL CHURCH
SUNDAY
SCHOOL AND YOUTH PROGRAMS

Emmanuel Episcopal Church welcomes all children ages 5-18 to join us for Sunday school beginning at 9:30 am each Sunday. Sunday school continues during the first part of the 10:00 am service for children ages 5 to 12. The children then join their parents after the sermon, so that families can receive communion together. Teens attend Christian Education from 9:30 until 10:00 and then they go to the full church service. Sunday school follows the academic year with classes beginning near Labor Day and ending mid-June. The school year culminates in a Graduation Sunday celebration along with a youth sponsored picnic at a local ranch.
We are currently utilizing the “Good News Curriculum” with lessons that are lectionary based and coordinated with the readings of the whole church each Sunday. Class is taught in 7-8 week sessions with a rotating staff of enthusiastic and dedicated teachers.
Year round nursery care is available for children four and under. At Emmanuel, we cherish our children and welcome all young people to be a part of our loving and supportive church family.
We want our young people see how Christian people live and work together in community. To this end , our youth participate in numerous church sponsored community outreach activities including: serving hot meals to the hungry each month at “the Last Friday Supper”, baking and donating cookies for the families and children at the Manzanita Family Center, gleaning fruit with the “Hallelujah Harvesters” for donation to Interfaith Food Ministry.
We have camp-out trips for families with children and our young people are encouraged to attend Episcopal church camp Noel Porter in the Sierra Mountains as well.
ACOLYTE
PROGRAM
Many of our children and youth ages nine and older are active in the acolyte program organized by our Acolyte Director, Anne Wood. The acolytes serve at Sunday services and other special church services. The director provides training and the acolytes periodically attend Diocesan meetings. Adult members are also encouraged to be trained as acolytes. The acolytes are a very special part of the worship team at Emmanuel.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Vacation Bible School takes place during one week in July each year and is a cooperative effort between Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Peace Lutheran Church, and Grass Valley United Methodist Church. The week is filled with powerful bible stories, mission stories, fun crafts, games and music. For more information, contact the church office at 273-7876.
